Description
With all the construction going on in the space elevator, VTOL ships drop off cargo at various levels of the space elevator structure. Wall mounted crane units are positioned around the outer structure of the elevator to aid in loading and unloading the VTOLs. Built in electronic systems and motors control the cranes, and allow the operator to move the crane module around the tower.
The cranes try to use the lightest weight materials, while designing the cranes to be able to handle a heavy maximum load. However, due to the size of the systems and the amount of material necessary, the cranes still weigh a lot. The cranes have both mechanical vice-like grips and magnetic grips on the wall facing side to keep them mounted to the tower. The cranes use wheels for moving around the tower, and use the traditional motor and pulley systems used in older early-21st century cranes. Various attachments can be attached to the end, depending on what sort of cargo is being transported.
